Elementary School Visits

Program: Visual Storytelling through Comics & Graphic Novels *NEW!*

(Approx. 45 minutes)
(K-grade 5)
In my visit, I show the creative stages of making a graphic novel— from brainstorming story ideas to designing compelling characters. Students will learn how a manuscript goes from the initial sketches to final art. We will explore comics vocabulary such as panels and word balloons. I end the presentation with a step by step activity where students can draw along with me. My hope is to inspire students to write and draw in a fun and engaging way through visual storytelling and sequential art. This visit includes:

  • A look at writing a manuscript for a graphic novel

  • Discussion of comics vocabulary and how it is used in storytelling

  • the process from sketches to the printed book

  •  A lively collaborative drawing game to make our very own comic

  • Q & As/ Book Signing
